Answer each item against the new standards
1Overhead clearance
The new rules raised the minimum vertical clearance under the shed to 12 feet (up from the old 8-ft standard), keeping the walkway open and bright.
2Deck lighting
Continuous LED lighting under the deck is now required, replacing older dim or incandescent setups, for pedestrian safety.
3Permit currency
Under Local Law 48, shed permits now cap at 90 days and must be renewed with proof of active work — no more passive annual renewals.
4Active work
A shed must protect progressing work. Dormant sheds with no active repairs are the main target of the new escalating penalties.
5Structure & condition
The shed should be structurally sound, well-maintained, and built to a current approved design — damaged or neglected sheds draw their own violations.
